Gene Fullmer Center first to have new pool filter system

The bug that closed swimming pools in Salt Lake County last summer now is feeling the heat.

Last summer, more than 1,600 cases of cryptosporidium, a parasite that causes acute diarrhea, were reported along the Wasatch Front. Utah usually has an average of 30 cases of cryptosporidium a year.

Budget crunch may mean higher property taxes and loss of city services

City services and programs such as the recently launched Citizens Police Academy, some snowplow overtime pay and the Firemen Banquet may be cut from West Jordan’s 2008-2009 municipal budget.

A financial deficit is projected for next year, and city officials are working to keep from going in the red. Suggestions include cutting services, raising property taxes and/or implementing a telecommunications tax.

WJPD awards banquet honors those who exemplify public service

The West Jordan Police Department hosted its second annual awards banquet on April 10 at Salt Lake Community College. The event, which drew more than 200 community and department members, honored the West Jordan Police employees who best exemplified the spirit of public service as well as citizens who contributed to the department’s success who were instrumental in helping to solve a crime.
