Youth garden feeds community

Kyrene Gibb had never gardened before she got involved with Utah G.A.R.D.E.N.S. Inc. Now she says she’s addicted.

“I love getting out there and playing in the dirt,” said the 17-year-old Skyline High School junior, “I love getting to meet new people who I’m working with and I love the opportunity to give back to the community. It’s really been a great experience.”

Blessing of the Hands ceremony honors caregivers

Hospital worker Donna Austin comes every year to be blessed.

“This is special,” she said. “I feel a great sense of peace at the ceremony. It’s hard to put into words, but I feel more connected to our patients after I come here. We all have our own faith, but this is a chance for us to come together.”

Community group revitalizes neighborhood

Inspired by the history of the area, a group of residents hope to take neighborhood revitalization into their own hands in the Madison Crossings neighborhood of South Salt Lake.

Madison Crossings, a name derived from the Pony Express trail that ran through the area, is defined as the neighborhood south of Interstate 80 to 2700 South and from State Street to 500 East.
